What they are saying is that if you have friends that do very dumb stuff like drugs and alcohol, then don’t hang out with them or you will and up in trouble, injured, in jail, or dead. It’s better to be alone than be with them or you will end up ruining your life too. You could be with people but the people that won’t get you in trouble. So remember always have good company not bad company.
